Mountains of Physics: ATLAS Presents Latest Results at the Rencontres de Moriond in La Thuile
[March 2012]
Experimentalists and theorists are gathering once more at La Thuile, Italy, March 3-17 for the annual "Rencontres de Moriond" to discuss latest results in particle physics and cosmology. ATLAS physicists will be presenting an extensive variety of measurements and of searches for new physics based on the complete set of data from 2011.
Update: Higgs search papers submitted for publication
[February 2012]
The results on Standard Model (SM) Higgs searches that ATLAS reported at a CERN seminar on December 13, 2011 have now been submitted for publication in three papers.
ATLAS discovers its first new particle
[December 2011]
The ATLAS collaboration has announced the discovery of the
b(3P), which is a bound state of a bottom quark and bottom antiquark (
). Bound states of a heavy quark and its antiquark are collectively called quarkonium. They are the QCD (Quantum Chromodynamics or strong force) analogues of the hydrogen atom, with each new particle corresponding to a different energy level.
